In July, the Brazilian transactional market registered 79 deals, both announced and closed, compared with 68 recorded in the same period last year. The investment volume generated was approximately BRL 16,70bn, taking into account deals with registered values. So far this year a total of 426 deals were recorded involving Brazilian companies with an investment volume of approximately BRL 103,60bn.

Regarding acquisitions carried out by Brazilian companies abroad, three deals were registered; one in Bermuda, one in British Virgin Islands and one in Switzerland. The latter was carried out by BTG Pactual, through an acquisition agreement of Swiss private bank BSI Bank, indirectly held by Assicurazioni Generali, an Italy-based insurance company. The deal value was approximately USD 1,68bn.

The technology subsector was one of the most active, with 13 deals registered in July. So far this year, the Internet companies attracted most of the foreign investors’ interest, with 19 deals registered. US-based acquirers carried out approximately 50% of the total number.

In the private equity and venture capital sector, the number of deals registered represented 9% and 14%, respectively, out of the total number of transactions this month. The investment volume generated by private equity firms was approximately BRL 548m, while the venture capital firms generated BRL 94m.

The highlighted deal this month was the Banco Santander Brasil’s acquisition, through Santander Getnet, of GetNet. The deal value was BRL 1,18bn.
