SPAIN

The Spanish transactional market registered in 1H16 an aggregate value of mergers and acquisitions of EUR 60.995bn, a 15.91% increase compared to 1H15. These figures were reached even though the number of transactions, 919, is lower than the one registered in 1H15, when 961 deals were registered. This occurred due to the existence of transactions with very high values, such as the merger of the Coca-Cola bottling companies, which created Coca-Cola European Partners, worth approximately EUR 20bn, or the absorption of Metrovacesa by Merlin Properties, among others. In terms of sectors, the most prominent sector in 2016 so far has been real estate, with 221 transactions. A distant second is the technology sector, with 83, Internet, with 76, and financial and insurance, with 70.

Regarding the most active sectors, highlights the Real Estate and Financial and Insurance as the most dynamic in the period with 20 and 19 transactions recorded respectively.
