Brazil - Second Quarter 2017

Brazil's merger and acquisition market recorded 245 deals in 2Q17, a slight increase of 4.7% over 2Q16. Of this amount, 104 had their values disclosed and resulted in a total of R$63.3bn, up 121% over the same period in 2016. The most active subsectors of the quarter were Technology (47 transactions), Financial and Insurance (36) and Distribution and Retail (25). The total accumulated in the first half of 2017 was 513 transactions and R$140.5bn. Financial and Insurance sector grew 53% in 1H17.

Brazil's M&A market recorded 74 transactions in May, an increase of 10% compared to the same month in 2016. Meanwhile, 34 operations had their values disclosed which exceeded R$ 12.7 billion, an increase of 48%. Despite the positive balance, May was the month with the lowest added value of Brazilian M&A market this year. The busiest sector year to date was Technology . The segment Financial and Insurance grew 38%.

Brazil - April 2017

TTR had registered 73 transactions in April, down 14% compared to the same month in 2016. However, Brazil's merger and acquisition market remains positive with the total of 342 operations in 2017, up 5% over last year. The total combined value of announced and closed transactions in Brazil in April stood at R$ 29.8bn, up 144%. The four-month period recorded the total amount of R$ 111.7bn, growth of 223%.

Brazil - First Quarter 2017

Brazil's M&A market completed the first quarter with positive results. TTR registered 256 transactions in January, February and March, an increase of 6.22% compared to the same period in 2016. So far, 96 transactions had revealed values totaling R$62.6 billion, a growth of 180% over the previous year.

Brazil - February 2017

The shortest month of 2017 follows the trend pointed in last January. According to the Transactional Track Record report, in partnership with LexisNexis and Tozzini Freire Advogados, 55 transactions were registered in February, 25% less than the same month last year. 20 deals had values disclosed and totaled R$16.1bn, an increase of 69.49%. The first two months of the year registered an increase of 169% in value over 2016.

Brazil - January 2017

The first month of 2017 does not point to the end of the Brazilian recession. According to a report published by Transactional Track Record, in partnership with LexisNexis, Merrill Corporation and Tozzini Freire, 69 transactions were registered in January, a reduction of 17% compared to 2016. On the other hand, 23 transactions had their value disclosed, which means R$ 25 billion, an expressive increase of 246% over the same period. This amount is due to the conclusion of CPFL's acquisition by the State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC). The operation started last July. The deal value was R$ 17 billion.
