In April, the Brazilian transactional market registered 43 transactions, both announced and concluded, which represents a decrease of approximately 40% compared with the same period last year. The investment volume generated was approximately BRL 6bn, taking into account deals with disclosed values.


The largest deal this month was the acquisition carried out by Japanese multinational Hoya Corporation, through its subsidiary based in The Netherlands, of a 41% stake in Brazil-based HTK Lentes Oftálmicas. The deal value was BRL 1,26bn.

This month, technology was the most active sector, with seven deals registered, and followed by the consultancy subsector with six. The internet subsector attracted companies in the United States, Germany, Argentina, Cayman Islands and United Kingdom. Regarding Brazilian acquisitions abroad, five deals were registered; one in Spain, one in Uruguay, one in Paraguay and one in France.


In the private equity sector less than half the number of deals were registered compared with the same period last year. A total of five transactions were recorded, which generated approximately BRL 12bn, taking into account deals with disclosed values. Regarding the venture capital segment, five transactions were recorded generating approximately BRL 31m, taking into account deals with disclosed values. In April of 2013, four transactions were registered generating approximately BRL 8m, taking into account deals with disclosed values.


In the Brazilian capital markets sector, highlights include a capital increase carried out by Oi, with the merger process with PT - Portugal Telecom. The deal value was BRL 13,20bn, with an initial public offering, initially of 2.142.279.524 common shares, at a price of BRL 2,17 per share and 4.284.559.049 preferred shares at a price of BRL 2 per share.
