August was the second most active month in the Brazilian transactional market with 86 deals registered, a 12% increase compared with the same period in 2012. In May, 87 deals were recorded. The investment volume this month was BRL 11,20bn, compared with BRL 12,20bn in the same period last year, and taking into account deals with registered values. Out of the total number of deals, 34% correspond to transactions with values inferior to BRL 200m, generating approximately BRL 1,75bn.

The largest deal this month involved the beverage distribution segment. Mexico-based Coca-Cola Femsa, through Coca-Cola Femsa Brasil, signed an agreement to acquire Brazilian bottler Spaipa. The deal value was approximately BRL 4,37bn. Coca-Cola Femsa also concluded this month the acquisition of Companhia Fluminense de Refrigerantes, for BRL 1,09bn.

Taking into account the whole year, the technology sector recorded the largest number of deals. Highlights include the agreement signed by UK-based GE Healthcare to acquire Brazil-based Omnimed. In August, 28 acquisitions were registered in Brazil conducted by foreign companies, and ten involved US-based acquirers.
