Latin America - First, Second and Third Quarter 2015

In the third quarter of 2015, the Latin American transactional market registered a 31.2% increase in investment volume compared with the same period last year; approximately USD 45.18bn in 2015, compared with approximately USD 34.45bn in 2014. On the other hand, the number of deals recorded was 468, compared with 546 in the same period last year.
Highlights include the acquisition made by Colombia-based Celsia de Producción de Energia for approximately USD 8.13bn. Furthermore, Banco Bradesco acquired HSBC Bank Brasil y HSBC Serviços, for approximately USD 5.22bn.

The private equity sector in Latin America was particularly active in August. The investment volume registered a 185% increase compared with the same period last year, reaching USD 773.86m.
By countries, Brazil was the most active with 81 private equity deals, and an investment volume of USD 309.86m, followed by Mexico with 19 deals that generated USD 43.45m, and Colombia with 12 generating USD 7.11m

Latin America – July 2015

In July, mergers and acquisitions in Latin America have yielded positive results regarding the total amount of investment, which registered an 81.1% year-on-year increase, reaching USD 21.955bn.
Two of the most prominent transactions this month were US-based TerraForm Global's acquisition of a group of oil assets in Brazil for USD 4.262bn and Mexico-based IENova's purchase agreement to acquire Gasoductos Chihuahua from Pemex for USD 1.325bn.

In May, the Latin American transactional market’s activity decreased compared with the previous year. Specifically, there was a 7.6% decrease compared with the same period in 2014; a total of 120 transactions were recorded.
Nonetheless, several relevant deals were registered in the high-end market in deal size (>USD 500m). Highlights include the proposal submitted by US-based Harbour Energy and by Mexico-based Alfa to acquire Canada-based Pacific Rubiales. The deal value was approximately USD 4.5bn.
