In the first quarter of 2013, the Latin American transactional market was relatively slow, with a decrease in number of deals. We registered 320 deals, compared to 360 in the same period last year. This transactional activity drop is a tendency also being reflected in other global markets. Nevertheless, the volume invested remained stable with the announcement of some relevant deals, mainly involving both Latin American and foreign companies. Highlights include Repsol’s sales of Atlantic LNG, a Trinidad and Tobago-based company, to UK-based Shell; and of Bahía de Bizkaia Electricidad (BBE), for USD 6,653m. Regarding the restructuring of Chilean pension funds, two relevant transactions were recorded. On one hand, US-based Principal Financial Group acquired a 63.44% stake in AFP Cuprum, a Chile-based pension funds management company. The deal value was USD 1,500m. In addition, MetLife reached an agreement to acquire a 64.3% stake in AFP Provida, held by Spain-based BBVA, for USD 2,365m.
