In July, the Mexican transactional market registered the largest number of deals so far this year. A total of 23 transactions were recorded, which represents a 109% increase compared with the same period last year, and a 27.7% increase compared with the previous month. On the other hand, the investment volume decreased to USD 392m, compared with USD 1.14bn in July 2013 and USD 10.02bn in June of this year.

Highlights, among the most relevant deals, include the acquisition made by Mexico-based Grupo Frisa of a 50% stake in LMF Frisa Comercial, a management company of shopping centers, held by US-based Clarion Partners. Through this deal, the company attained 100% of the capital. The deal value was USD 207m.

The most active sectors, in July, were the consultancy, audit and engineering sector followed by the technology and food sectors. The last two were also the most active throughout the year. Highlights include Grupo Bimbo’s acquisition of Ecuador-based Supan, for an undisclosed amount.

In the cross-border sector, Spain-based acquirers have become the most important investors in Mexico through mergers and acquisitions. This month, Spanish companies made three acquisitions in Latin America and registered six since the beginning of 2014. Highlights include the acquisition by Spain-based Carbures of Mexican engineering company PYPSA, for USD 7,64m. On the other hand, Mexican companies invested in Spain. Grupo Herradura Occidente reached a subscription agreement in a capital increase which will be carried out by Prisa, a Spain-based media company. The deal value was EUR 99,99m.

The private equity sector was dynamic this month, with some four investments registered. Highlights include the acquisition by US-based fund Beamonte Investment Partners of a minority stake in Mexico-based Kiwii Capital, for an undisclosed amount.

In the capital markets sector there were no deals registered this month. However, there are a few transactions in the pipeline which could be closed in the next few months.
