Private Equity transactions record a 20% increase in Spain

According to TTR‘s monthly report in collaboration with Intralinks, the Spanish transactional market has registered a total of 838 transactions with an amount of EUR 22,816m during the first quarter 2022.

During April, 175 mergers and acquisitions were registered, between announced and closed, for an amount of approximately EUR 5,582m.

In sectoral terms, Real Estate was the most active sector of the year, with a total of 208 transactions and an increase of 52% compared to the same period in 2021, followed by Internet, Software and IT Services, with 91 and a decrease of 17%.

On the other hand, the United States and the United Kingdom, with 68 and 47 transactions respectively, are the countries with the highest number of investments in Spain. By amount, the United States stands out, with EUR 3,775.86m.

A total of 106 Private Equity transactions for EUR 5,560m were recorded during the first quarter of the year, 20% more in the number of deals and 8% less than in the same period of the previous year.

In the Venture Capital segment, 193 transactions were completed for an amount of EUR 2,477m, a 9% decline in the number of deals and a 6% increase in the amount of deals, year-on-year.

Within the Asset Acquisitions segment, 255 transactions worth EUR 5,515m were recorded until April 2022, representing a 6% increase in the number of transactions and a 42% increase in the amount of transactions, year-on-year.

Besides, TTR has selected the acquisition of a majority stake in Spain’s Grupo Uvesco by French private equity firm PAI Partners as a highlight transaction.

This operation, for a total amount of approximately EUR 500m, was advised on the legal side by Gómez-Acebo & Pombo and Garrigues. On the financial side, has been advised by AZ Capital and CREA Inversión while EY Spain has advised on Due Diligence. Linklaters has also acted as legal advisor.
