Transactions in Brasil decreased by 5% in 2020

The total aggregate value of transactions has fallen almost 32%

According to Transactional Track Record (TTR) platform, the number of transactions in Brasil in 2020 decreased 5% compared to 2019. The total number of trades was 1549, close from 1633 of the previous year. Only the third quarter of 2020 experimented an increase from the same period of 2019; the other three quarter showed a decrease from 2019 numbers. (See table below).

Notwithstanding this slight decrease in the number of deals, the transactions' total aggregate value reduction seems more worrying. The value of the transactions is 31.91% lower than the past year. $42 billion is the total amount of the transactions registered in 2020. 2019 closed with a total aggregate of more than $61.5 billion.

The United States remains as the origin of most of the investments in Brazil; something that has happened every year in the last decade. Also, the United States are the prefered target for Brazilian investors abroad.

Mattos Filho, Veiga Filho, Marrey Jr. e Quiroga Advogados leads the Law firm ranking of the year, with a total value of $9.4 billion in deals.

By the number of transactions, the leader is Veirano Advogados with 93 operations registered on the year.

Machado, Meyer, Sendacz e Opice Advogados partner Fernando Tonanni (pictured left) leads the individual lawyers ranking by transactions value with $5253 million.

Derraik & Menezes Advogados partner Rodrigo Menezes (pictured right) leads the ranking by the number of transactions with 48 deals.
