VdA , Morais Leitão lead M&A deals in Portugal

Despite the COVID-19 crisis, according to TTR, for the first half of the year, Vda and Morais Leitão, together with Campos Ferreira, Sá Carneiro & Associados, in third position, have led M&A operations in Portugal with an aggregate value over €10 billion

Despite the COVID-19 crisis, according to TTR, for the first half of the year, Vda and Morais Leitão, together with Campos Ferreira, Sá Carneiro & Associados, in third position, have led M&A operations in Portugal with an aggregate value over €10 billion

According to financial technology and market intelligence platform Transaction Track Record (TTR) Impact Monitor Special Report (July 31, 2020), transaction volume in Portugal is down 28%, relative to the first seven months of 2019, while aggregate deal value has increased 49%. M&A volume is up by 6% in Real Estate, the most active sector, while the number of transactions has fallen in the next three sectors ranked by volume, with a 45% drop in tech deals, a 39% decline in tourism and hospitality and a 21% drop in retail and distribution.

Regarding law firms advising on the deals, and according to TTR, from January to June 2020, with the information available as of August 31, VdA led the M&A market in Portugal, with deals value close to €4 billion. It is closely followed, in the second position, by Morais Leiitão, and Campos Ferreira, Sá Carneiro & Associados, in third position, with operations worth almost €2.5 billion.

Next, in fourth and fifth position, we find Abreu Advogados and Linklaters, whose deals total near €1 billion. SRS Advogados follows with almost €850 million. Uría Menéndez - Proença de Carvalho and Gómez-Acebo & Pombo Portugal hold seventh and eighth place respectively, with deals valued at €800 million.

At a long distance, in ninth position is CTSU Sociedade de Advogados (Deloitte Legal network), with €50 million, tied with Primaz Advogados. They are followed by RRP Advogados and PLMJ.
