In the third quarter of 2014, the Brazilian transactional market registered 246 deals, both announced and closed, compared with 230 in the same period last year. The investment volume generated this quarter was BRL 55,89bn, taking into account deals with disclosed values.
From January to September, there were 587 deals registered involving Brazilian companies, and the investment volume was approximately BRL 141,73bn; superior to the total volume generated throughout 2013. Deals involving private equity and venture capital firms represent 10% and 15%, respectively, of the total number of transactions so far this year. Furthermore, 36% of the total number of deals were registered with values inferior to BRL 200m.
With respect to foreign acquisitions in Brazil, US-based acquirers were the most active in the third quarter of 2014, with 24 acquisitions recorded mainly in the technology, consultancy, Internet and financial subsectors. France-based and Germany-based acquirers were the second most active, with six acquisitions each one. On the other hand, Brazilian companies registered 11 acquisitions abroad; three in Chile and two in the United States.
On the other hand, transactions involving venture capital firms generated an investment of BRL 242m, compared with BRL 210m in the same period last year. The Internet subsector attracted most investments, with 61 deals registered.
TTR’s highlighted deal this quarter was Michelin’s acquisition of Sascar, which had been announced in June. The deal value was BRL 1,325bn, plus debt assumption.
