In October, the Latin American transactional market recorded a decrease in the number of deals compared with the previous month. However, the investment volume increased due to several large deals. Highlights include a possible merger. Brazil-based telecommunications company Oi will acquire PT - Portugal Telecom, for USD 14.51bn. Regarding countries, Brazil-based acquirers continue to be the most active with 79 deals, followed by Chile with 16, which outshined Mexico, with 15 deals this month. One of the most active players was Mexico-based Grupo Financiero Banorte. The group acquired a 49% stake in Seguros Banorte Generali, a Mexico-based insurance company, held by Italy-based Assicurazione Generali, for USD 637m. Furthermore, the group also acquired a 49% stake in Pensiones Banorte Generali, for USD 221m, attaining 100% of the capital.
