 In April, the Mexican transactional market remained stable as far as the number of overall deals, with 14 transactions recorded, the same number as in April 2013. Regarding other countries in Latin America, Brazil was the most active followed by Mexico, and Colombia was the third. On the other hand, the investment volume decreased by 48% compared with the same period last year, generating USD 869m in 2013 compared with USD 451 this month.

In April, the food and financial and insurance subsectors were the most dynamic. The latter was the most active throughout 2014. Highlights include the acquisition made by Mexico-based CI Banco of bank BNY Mello México, held by BNY Mellon. The deal value was USD 45m.

In the cross-border sector, US-based acquirers continue to be the most acquisitive in Mexico, with two investments recorded, followed by Israeli and Chinese companies, which made one acquisition each. Furthermore, Mexican companies also set their sights abroad with two acquisitions in the technology sector; one in the United States and another in Austria.

The venture capital was the most active segment in the private equity sector, with three relevant investments registered. Highlights include a capital increase carried out by Space Monkey, a US-based developer of storage technology and cloud computing, which was subscribed by venture capital fund Alta Ventures México.

The capital markets does not show signs of recovery, and in April no IPOs or capital increases were registered. Nevertheless, experts state that the second semester will be more dynamic.
