The number of mergers and acquisitions of companies in Portugal fell in the first four months of the year, to 109 operations, less than 14% compared to the same period in 2019. The transactional market retreated until April in terms of volume, but the same does not happen in the amount handled, these businesses: 6,5 billion euros, plus 87%.

According to the TTR - Transactional Track Record, the real estate sector maintains the leadership it had in the first quarter of 2020, with 37 deals recorded in this report, more than half (54%) than in the same period. This is followed by technology (17) and hotel / tourist / catering (seven).

The M&A operation highlighted in this directory was the conclusion of the purchase of the companies Senvion Deutschland and Rio Blades, for 200 million euros, by the Spanish company Siemens Gamesa. The business in question was advised by Cuatrecasas, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Deloitte and Rothschild.

TTR counted 15 transactions where Portuguese companies made acquisitions across borders. On the other hand, “investment funds private equity e venture capitall foreigners reduced their investments in Portuguese companies by 67%, when compared to the same period of the previous year ”, can be read in the document. In venture capital, technology continues to stand out, with the fund that stood out the most in this type of investments was EDP Ventures, involved in three operations.
